The Three R's of Sustainability

Most of us have heard of the three R's of sustainability: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. At Pure Bamboo we're committed to looking for ways in which to work in concert with the natural world. This document is to demonstrate how we implement each of these in our everyday practices and policies. Ultimately the three R's are about reducing or eliminating waste output into the landfills and the environment. There's a reason why when you see the three words Reduce, Reuse, Recycle together they're in that specific order. Many of us know about recycling and are active participants in recycling everyday and that's great! However recycling is really the failure to reduce and reuse a product first. Recycling takes far more energy and resources then the first two "R's" in our list combined. This is how Pure Bamboo implements all three forms of the three R's.

Reduce: Pure Bamboo reduces waste by using minimal packaging on all our garments and towels. We are continually looking for ways to reduce our overall carbon footprint as well as our waste output. Most of our garments come wrapped in minimal biodegradable packaging tastefully tied together with hemp twine and our customized Pure Bamboo hang tag made from recycled card stock. Marketing materials and all correspondence are sent electronically as much as possible. At Pure Bamboo we love trees and are committed to being a paperless company.

Reuse: As a business we are continually receiving boxes and packages from numerous vendors and clients. Instead of throwing these useful boxes out (or recycling them) we reuse them. Often times these boxes are utilized to fulfill orders we receive for our products on-line. So if you receive a package from us and it happens to say Amazon.com on the side, please know that this is part of our commitment to reduce waste by REUSING perfectly useable packaging. We invite you to consider doing the same and instead of recycling the box — REUSE it.

Recycle: The third "R" and probably the most widely known. While recycling of paper products, cans and bottles is good to do we've taken the concept one step further with Pure Bamboo's Rebate and Recycle Program. In addition to the life time guarantee we offer on our Bathrobes we offer a rebate on all used Pure Bamboo items. So if your bamboo towel or spa wrap or sheet has worn out — return it to us and we'll give you a credit towards the purchase of the same item. Instead of looking at that old towel as something to be thrown out we'll pay you for it and you can get a brand new one. Pure Bamboo will use the returned merchandize to recycle the product into new products or use it for composting to create healthy top soil.
